New Year's Message from the Chairman
Chris Grocock 23rd December 2016

As the newly elected Chair of the Parish Council, this is my first message to you as part of our Annual Christmas and New Year's newsletter.

First and foremost I would like to thank outgoing Chairman Gregg Redford who has given immense service to our community as an ordinary member and then Chair of Whatton PC for many years. From first-hand experience I can tell you that the amount of work that Gregg put into both the Parish Council and the Whatton & Aslockton Playing Field was truely staggering and with his resignation the community has lost a tireless and expert advocate for all our interests.

I'd like to take this opportunity to invite local residents to contact the Parish Council on the issues that matter most to them. Parish Councils' have limited power - we arrange the cutting of the road side verges, manage the green spaces at the end of Azmimghur Road and Ivy Row Green and jointly manage the Playing Field with Aslockton Plarish Council and local sports clubs. We are consulted on Planning matters and highway issues, but have limited decision making powers. Nevertheless we are a recognixed voice for the local community, are listened to by Rushcliffe Borough Council and Nottinghamshire County Council and will therefore actively represent Whatton residents if you have issues that fall within the domain of larger local councils.
  • Address enviormental matters - we're currently working with Rushcliffe BC to bring in a volunteer warden scheme to help tackle dog-fouling.
  • Developing a legally recognised Neighbour Plan to protect Whatton from unscrupulous development and housing pressures.
  • Compaigning for appropriate road safety measures at the Grantham Road junction with the A52.
  • Improving local footpaths and bridleways - encourage the County Council to take action on the dire state of these public rights of way.

We are not a large organisation, in fact we are really just a group of volunteers with one part-time member of staff so if you are interested in getting invloved in any of these matters or want to raise an issue of your own we would very much welcome your involvement.

Please contact the Parish Council's Clerk Mike Elliott on 0115 937 6506 or email at elliottnews@btconnect.com and we'd be happy to speak to you.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Chris Grocock
